Currently, works closely with the Layasiksa community in the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. This community has been suported by the World Wide Fund developing a forestry operation fron their well managed community owned forest. is committed to supporting the Layasiksa initiative.


Our Tree Proiect worked with the community exploring the possible uses of the second and third quality wood and we now buying this wood to make feature furniture.

This is howthe WWF describes their work with the Layasiksa Community:

"The first step to implement the forestry management process in thew community was analyzing the current traditional indigene community structure and it´s principal functions in the internal laws and management of the community resources.

Taking into consideration the lack of management and commercial skills of this structure, the WWF forestry management projecthad to give technical assistance to suport the auto development of the community, thru bussiness and organizational development of the community as a fundamental part of the estrategic planning.




A business and management model was included in the forestry management, allowing the community to organized themselves as a c ommunity business with internal rules, organization and juridical constitution. In this effort to professionalize the community onrganization community members received practical trainings in managing forestry inventory, management plan elaboration, operations planning, as well as timber selection, extraction and processing".
